Congratulations to the winners!

I thought it was appropriate to congratulate the winners of the most recent homebrew competitions.

First, congrats to Jody Rockhill for his Oak Aged Stout that he received honorable mention for at the Newtown, CT homebrew competition.

Congrats go to Mike Eyre and Pete Warzycha for their Dunkel second place win at the New England Regional Homebrew Competition. Also to Mike (and myself) for taking home First Place in the same category.

Congrats guys, you deserve it!

Brews Cruise to Alaska?

Otter Creek World Tour: Sphinx

Hated it. It took alot for me to finish drinking this beer. I didn’t like it at all. Tasted like soap. It actually wasn’t the initial flavor, it was the after taste and well, it smelled kinda nasty too. I dreaded every sip. I didn’t want to dump it out, so I drank the rest of it after a few other beers so my taste buds were already shot. Don’t buy this beer! Suprising though that it got good ratings on beer advocate. I don’t advocate trying it…It seemed like it might be more interesting than it was. I think the chamomile is what bothered me. Just had an odd flavor in beer.

Homebrew club

This idea has been kicked around before but I am now throwing it out to the entire group, some of you who I have never met before. I think it’s about time that we organized some kind of homebrew club. There are more than enough of us to get this thing off the ground. We’ll keep it simple at first, get together, share some homebrew and kick around some ideas. You guys on board? Any input?

Mango Ale Recipe

I was just searching for an interesting recipe to post to start this section. Mango Ale…that’s a new one, but I sounds pretty good!

Brewing Method: Extract
Yeast: WYEAST LONDON ESP
Yeast Starter:
Batch Size: 6 U.S. GAL
Original Gravity: 1.048
Final Gravity: 1.010
Alcohol Content: ? %
Total Grains: 1 POUND VIENNA MALT
Color: ?
Extract Efficiency: %
Hop IBU’s:
Boiling Time: 1 HOUR
Primary Fermentation: 2 WEEKS AT 75 DEGREES
Secondary Fermentation: NONE
Additional Fermentation: NONE

Grain Bill:

8 LBS. ALEXANDER’S LIGHT MALT EXTRACT
1 LBS. VIENNA MALT
1.5 LBS WILD HONEY
1 GALLON MANGO PUREE ( FROM RIPE TO OVER RIPE MANGOS)

Hop Bill:
1 OZ. TETTENAGER

Mash Schedule:
NONE

Brewers Notes:
ADD GRAIN TO 2.5 GALS COLD WATER, BRING TO BOIL REMOVE GRAIN, ADD HOPS AND MALT. BOIL FOR 50 MINUTES THEN ADD MANGO PUREE AND HONEY. CONTINUE BOIL FOR 10 MINUTES.

COOL AND ADD TO FERMENTER TOP OFF WITH WATER
PITCH YEAST ONCE TEMP AS BELOW 80 DEGREES

ALLOW TO FERMENT DOWN ABOUT 2 WEEKS.

RACK TO BOTTLING PAIL WITH 1 CUP CORN SUGAR AND 1/2 CUP DRY MALT TO PRIME.

BOTTLE AND ALLOW 1 TO 2 WEEKS TO CONDITION

Ok, so this category is for beer stories, articles, any beer news. Let’s start off with a funny one! I heard about this on the news this morning. Friggin funny as hell! I would have loved to have seen this. On the radio they said she was extremely drunk!

Woman Wearing Cow Suit Arrested

Michelle Allen A Middletown woman is arrested, after chasing children, urinating on a porch, and blocking traffic… all while wearing a cow suit.

Police say 32 year old Michelle Allen was chasing children in the 3100 block of Wilbraham, while wearing the cow costume early Monday evening. Allen also reportedly urinated on a neighbor’s front porch. An officer told Allen to go home and stay there for the remainder of the evening.

Police were later called to North Verity Avenue, where Allen was allegedly blocking traffic. The arresting officer says Allen smelled of alcohol, slurred her speech, and was belligerent. She also allegedly cussed at the officer.

Allen is charged with disorderly conduct.

Ok, so I’m just trying to get some categories to this here blog. So here’s a general beer talk one. So let’s say I tried the new Wayerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale and really liked it. Well this is where I would tell you that and rave about how great it was. I agree with Miles from the Cork in Torrington that its one of the best Pumpkin Beers this year. Anyone else try this fine offering from the boys down in PA!
